Trouble has an inconvenient way of finding Astarion, no matter how much he tries to avoid it. Trouble in the form of yokai, spirits no one else can see. Despite that, he has made a life for himself he desperately wants to keep, he has found a person who shares his ability to see yokai, an exorcist who also happens to be a world-famous author, Gale Dekarios.
But like countless times before, trouble finds him and this time it has Gale in the middle of it.

“Tara is here,” Shadowheart says. She hops down and runs towards the storage rooms, glancing behind to make sure Astarion is following her.
Astarion doesn't like this. Anxiety churns inside him as he follows Shadowheart to the back of the library, somewhere they can talk in private without worrying Wyll or library patrons interrupting them.
Tara shouldn't be here. She should be with Gale, she should be taking care of him and make sure Gale doesn't land himself into any trouble of the spirit kind. That's what familiars — shiki — like Tara were for, and Gale in his enthusiastic desire to investigate all and everything needed that.
