Recognition bleeds into Dan Heng’s face. Cloud-Piercer dissipates into glowing vapor; then his horns, his long hair. His clothing resolves itself back into the coat and dark shirt Stelle is familiar with, equally damaged, scuffed and bloody and frayed when Stelle has never seen him with so much as a hair out of place.
“Stelle,” he says, and then it’s like all of his strings are cut at once. He falls.

The Divine Foresight would see these myriad possibilities—six paths leading to twelve branching streams, fifty inlets stemming to the cove of Dan Heng’s heart. To let Jing Yuan any closer would be imprudent, reckless, a hundred other treacherous things.
