Summary
Shane Hollander’s knee gets blown out by team USA at the International Prospect Cup semi-final before he ever gets to face Rozanov on the ice. His hockey career is unexpectedly put on hold until he can get reconstructive surgery.
Needing to stay close to the game while unable to get on the ice, Shane gets a job in sports journalism and is lucky enough to stumble into the opportunity to do be present for post-game interviews while his coworker is out sick.
He doesn’t expect anyone to notice him in the media scrum, surrounded by cameras, mics, and legitimate reporters. Ilya Rozanov, however, hardly ever embodies the expected.

Summary
When the unsentimental financial imperative of the NHL sees Shane traded to the Boston Raiders, he and Ilya are thrown into closer extended proximity than ever before. As they adjust to life as teammates, they are forced to contend with the nature of their relationship -and must answer for themselves: is it even a relationship at all?
____Sliding down the wall, Shane hunched over his untied sneakers, shoved on hastily when Coach had called him in for a meeting after morning skate.
“Boston wanted you specifically. I’ve already spoken to their GM. You’re flying this evening or tomorrow morning: I’ll confirm once the paperwork clears.”
“Mom,” Shane managed.
“Oh sweetie. I know, okay. Those fuckers, how dare they do this! Two fucking cups! Now all of a sudden they decide they want a reset and you’re going to fund it.”
Shane put his head between his knees and tried to breathe. God, Boston. They hated him there; it was so far away; he was fucking their captain.

Summary
Several years into Rozanov’s career, ESPN hires a reporter fluent in Russian.
Suddenly able to answer questions fluently and with a wide vocabulary, Rozanov’s interviews go viral. Hockey fans around the world get a new look at what they thought about Boston’s #81. This changes not only his public persona, but his whole life.
Inspired by the look on NBA star Nikola Jokić’s face when he was asked a question in his native Serbian and my own struggles learning a new language.

Summary
Shane scratched the back of his neck. “Rose, uh… she figured it out. Us. Our history. All of it.”
Ilya turned his head slowly, disbelieving. “Figured it out?”
“To be fair, you and I weren’t exactly subtle in Montreal,” Shane said, sheepishly.
Ilya huffed, scowling.
“So, she knows.” He swallowed. “Everything?”
“I mean, not all the gory details,” Shane said, shrugging. “But enough.”
There was a pause long enough for the surf to swell and retreat twice.
“And? What?” Ilya asked finally, jaw tight. “She is… disgusted?”
Shane actually snorted. “Uh. No.”
“No?”
“No,” Shane said again, dragging a hand down his face. Then, half-laughing, “She, um. She thinks it’s fucking hot.”
---------
Or, in essence, what if Rose clocks Shane and Ilya in Montreal, she's like, I want two boyfriends and I want the boyfriends to be boyfriends, too. God gave me two hands for a reason.
