Summary
“No word in Eridian. Human Earth thing. Explain.”
Ryland thinks back, then – oh. Ohhhh. Oh God. “What, Jesus Christmas?”
“Yes. Yes yes yes.”
“Ohhhhh boy,” says Ryland.
Admittedly, he kinda wants to have this conversation. Not because he’s looking forward to bumbling through a terrible explanation of the thousand Gods that humans have worshipped over the centuries, but he’s curious to know if Eridians worship anything. If they have ancient theories about the origins of the universe that morphed into a way of life over the years. Where that might’ve come from.
Alien theology might’ve been the number-one priority of some human scientists and biologists, and maybe he should’ve asked about this before he sent the Beetles off, but – hey. This is just for him. Besides, he’s flying to Erid. It’ll be good to know cultural customs before he lands and says something that accidentally offends a whole alien religion, or something. Because that’s something he would 100% manage to do.
“What.”
“Rocky, do Eridians have religion?”

Summary
One thing that Rocky has learned about humans is that they like to look at pictures.
Maybe. Or maybe it is just a particular habit of his Grace, who seems to pass more and more time sitting in the projection room and looking at his rolling images of Earth.
Rocky likes Earth. Especially the beach. That’s Grace’s favorite place, too.
But the pictures don’t change. Not more than they did the first time Grace showed him, with the waves crashing up onto the sand and the leaves of the trees rustling in the wind.

Summary
Carl had offered to do it; Yao and Ilyukhina had offered; even the consulting ISS astronauts had offered; really, it was an administrative job, and someone's military could have done it. But Eva hadn't been able to forget the last burning look of not just betrayal, but overriding abject fear, that Grace had thrown at her as he fled her office. She had to do this for him. It was penance.
