Summary
The painting is one he remembers sitting for, when he was eleven, at the beginning of May. He looks at it now, the dust on the frame, the way the old untreated paint has begun to fleck around the corners, the fear in his younger eyes; even living paintings reflect what they see, and this Draco has been in Malfoy Manor for the past two years, as regrettably as the corporeal version. He is smaller than Draco ever remembers being, but there are no bags under his eyes, and when he resumes looking back behind the perspective, towards his mother, there is childish pride and love there.
“I’m sorry,” he tells the little boy in the portrait. He feels hot against his eyes but he refuses to cry, or to feel much of anything.

Summary
Draco had known, for a good portion of his life, about his siren heritage. He'd underestimated how much he'd come to embrace that part of him. How much good it would bring into his life. The summer before his fourth year at Hogwarts had been a pivotal moment for Draco but as the school year begins, there are still many new changes for him to navigate.
As his entire life perspective is upended, the Triwizard Tournament comes to Hogwarts, and Potter takes a suspicious interest in him... Well, Draco Malfoy definitely has his work cut out for him.
