Summary
The Cloud Recesses Guest Lectures were held every three years for disciples between the ages of fifteen and eighteen. They had three purposes.
The first (and the reason it was hosted by the Lan) was to provide a shared baseline understanding of the core cultivation topics that underpinned every sect while not divulging clan-specific approaches.
The second was to create opportunities for friendships and alliances that would reduce the chance of war between the clans.
The third, and most important, was for the clans to replenish their bloodline by finding compatible mates with strong cultivation skills. In the last month of the lectures, challenges to test compatibility could be issued.
Wei Wuxian challenges Lan Wangji, sure that they are compatible mates. The Lan refuse to allow the Challenge.
They come to regret it.

Tonight has had a few…revelations for Wei Ying. He lost his first kiss, and his second, and his hundredth, and it was Lan Zhan who stole them. Lan Zhan, who has only ever been vocal in his disapproval of Wei Ying. Lan Zhan, who has always said that Wei Ying is "ridiculous" and "silly."
More than this, until approximately ten minutes ago, Wei Ying was absolutely, totally, one hundred percent sure that he was straight! All it had taken was one (1) dare from Nie Huaisang, which Wei Ying couldn't say 'no' to because that would completely defeat the purpose of Truth or Dare. Wei Ying had laughed about it initially, and he gave Lan Zhan an easy out, assuming he would be disgusted. Little did he know…

Summary
On his next visit, Crowxian presented Owlji with a crown of flowers which he placed atop Lan Zhan’s head. Lan Zhan immediately removed the crown and ate it. Wei Ying blinked, then laughed.
“Lan Zhan! If you didn’t like the crown you could have just taken it off! You didn’t need to eat it!” he chuckled.
Owlji blinked. “I liked it very much, it was delicious.”
Crowxian laughed even harder. His second attempt had utterly failed but he was too amused to be upset about it.
