“Yes,” Alfred admits.
Bruce finishes changing the bandages wrapped around his abdomen, and finally tilts his head upward to look Alfred in the eye. It surprises him to see the grief on his face. Bruce’s surprise soon morphs into dread as Alfred extends the newest letter. Opened.
“You’ve read it,” Bruce observes before grabbing Alfred’s offering.

Bruce expected a swift reply, perhaps an annoyed drawl, but he receives nothing. Bruce feels his heart skip several beats.
“Robin?” Bruce repeats with strain.
Damian’s voice would have been the only thing to bring life to the silent channel. It’s a pressurized silence that bursts underneath the tension. Bruce listens to his children erupt with concerned conversation. Bruce doesn’t have the time to listen to them individually. Damian isn’t responsive. Damian is hurt.

"I love you too, Ahki," Damian whispered, burrowing into Jason's chest.
"Alright, bedtime, young man," Jason said, but Damian made no effort to move, and Jason didn't force him.
