Summary
One of the hunters sneered and yanked the chains harder, forcing the russet wolf’s body forward. He let out a sharp snarl, his limbs trembling as he fought against the pull, but the silver did its job—it burned, it drained, it stole whatever strength he had left.
The villagers only laughed.
Laughed.
Jungkook felt something hot spill down his cheek before he even realized he was crying.
He swallowed thickly, blinking against the blur in his vision, willing himself to stop, to keep it together—but how could he?This was wrong.
So, so wrong.
His body trembled as he bit his lip, trying to keep himself quiet, to make himself small, but his tears kept falling.
They burned against his cold skin, his breath coming out in uneven gasps as he forced himself to watch, even though it hurt. And then—
The russet wolf looked at him.

“So,” Jihoon started. “Anything you want to share with me, Jungkook-ah?” he asked, his voice sounding suspiciously even.
“I... may have met my soulmates,” Jungkook hedged, looking anywhere but at his best friend.
“And?” Jihoon pressed, not taking his eyes off the dish in front of him.
“And they’re really nice?” Jungkook replied, feeling the heat extend further down his neck at the weak admission.
Jihoon glanced over at him and shot him an unimpressed look. “I was under the impression we didn’t like your soulmates,” he deadpanned, glancing down at the cheerful writing on Jungkook’s hand again.
Jungkook sighed and leaned fully against the counter, “Me too.”

Summary
Jungkook had never wanted much from life. He had his hobbies, his tattoos that only he and his tattoo artist knew about, his little basement apartment, and for a long time, that had been enough. Everyone sometimes felt empty and numb. At least that’s what he’d always told himself.
He should have never tried to change it, should have never begun courting a pack of six alpha CEOs, no matter how much his instincts had yearned. Hope was a finicky thing and, as he’d found out, it would never be enough for someone like him.
