The god tilted his head. Stepped closer. Looked Kaveh over like he was something to be carved open.
“Anything?”
Kaveh swallowed. “Y-yes.”
Or: Kaveh’s juniors pissed off a god. Kaveh offered himself in their place. He didn’t expect the punishment to last a lifetime. And he definitely didn’t expect to enjoy it.

Summary
Kaveh walked down the hallway that the hiring manager had previously instructed him to, quickly finding himself behind the counter of the main dining area. It was sparsely populated, which he supposed made sense considering the time. Two people appearing to be siblings sat at the counter, chatting with his new coworker as she poured them coffee. In the corner, there was a man sitting alone at a table, reading a newspaper with a cup of coffee sitting in front of him.
And then, in front of the main window, a particularly striking man sat alone in a booth. He also had a cup of coffee in front of him, and Kaveh watched as he sipped it without breaking his attention away from the book he was reading.
In which Kaveh, an exhausted grad student, starts working the night shift at a diner that he, as a human, probably shouldn't have been hired at. But then, how else was he supposed to meet the eternal (literally) love of his life?

Kaveh's life falls apart in the dead of night. He is spared the cruelty of having to watch it crumble, but there is no mercy in the rubble that awaits him the following morning when he rushes to the construction site of his latest project.
A collapse due to faulty blueprint, they all say. With compassion, with apathy, with pity.
Kaveh just wishes someone would believe in him.
