“She’s not going to understand, Stevie,” his voice is softer than it’s been for years. He doesn’t want anyone to hear it, but has to say it.
“They’ll explain. And we can help her. It will be alright,” Steve tries. But Bucky can hardly hear a word. He moves to stand over her, scrutinizing every new colour for the bruises and trying to figure out how this would happen.
There’s a pull for his hand to meet her middle, brushing it so gently he’s not even sure he really did. How his heart can hurt and feel so full at once is torture. He swallows hard and lets his fingertips drag as he takes his hand away.

After a car accident, everything turns upside down as Bucky has to restart his relationship from scratch, with one deadline hanging over his head.
