Shallan covered her face with both hands. “Oh, Kal, no! That merchant tried to rip me off back when I was studying under Jasnah in Kharbranth, and mostly succeeded!” Her eyes grew wide. “Did you specify which books you wanted?”
“I bought some of everything.”
Shallan groaned. “That merchant specializes in romantic novels, Kaladin. And I bet most of the books you purchased are of that genre!”

Kaladin coughed up blood. Only a little, for now. But if he was coughing up blood at all, the spear had clipped a lung, if not outright punctured it. Drowning on his own blood was yet another way he could die here, lying face down in the dust and crem. Leshwi must have put him here, he realized. If he'd hit the ground on his own, he would be dead already. But he wasn't, and Leshwi had killed one of her own people for him. Huh. She must really like him to try this hard to save his life.
