Sheriff Stilinski thought he'd left all of this behind when he'd retired from the Air Force. Hoped he'd never have to deal with anything like this again. The weird, the insane, the inhuman, the dangerous. It's all supposed to stay safely on the other side of the 'Gate. It did, too, when it was his job. But somehow, it seems, it's all found him again, even way out in this podunk little town, hundreds of miles and millions of lightyears away.

‘Alright, fine,’ huffs Wei Ying, blowing out his cheeks. He adjusts his grip on the smooth hilt of the sword, as cold as wet stone beneath his palm. ‘How do I give this back to you?’
‘I must trade with you something of equal worth,’ says the strange man.
‘Uh. Okay.’ Wei Ying rubs his forehead with his free hand. ‘How about your name? Your real name.’ In case he needs to file a police report or stalk this beautiful, scary man on google or something.
The man looks even more angry. He pulls his shoulders back and draws himself to his full height, which is rather impressive and forces Wei Ying to tip his chin up slightly.
‘My name is Lan Zhan,’ the man says.

“You saw the body?” Jason asks. It’s a stupid question—of course Tim saw it. Tim was the one who found it, who rolled it into the carpet in the first place. But there’s a second question wrapped up in his strangled tone, which is: Are you okay after seeing the body?
Tim just purses his lips, almost indignant. “This isn’t the first time I’ve seen a corpse before, Jason.”
