Takashi looks up at him with a delighted little smile, the one that always makes Shuuichi’s breath catch in his chest, and his voice sounds more like home than any place could ever be when he murmurs a soft, “Welcome back, Shuuichi.”

Summary
“I’m a little tired, I think I'll rest for a bit,” Natsume says suddenly, and something about his voice seems…off. Shuuichi side-eyes him in concern, but doesn’t stop the boy from heading in.
Worry lingers sticky in the back of his mind, though, and he can’t help but keep an eye on the door as his shiki cluster around him.
It’s because of this that he catches the streak of white tear out the inn a few minutes later and sprint in the direction Natsume had originally come from.
His worry blossoms into full on alarm.
(Natsume has an unfortunate, or possibly very fortunate, encounter with some ayakashi flowers on yet another inn trip. Shuuichi suffers and Madara has no patience for silly human principles.)
