Bruce’s hands tighten around his. It’s reminiscent of the way he’d held them when Dick was nine-years-old and panicking so terribly he’d thought he’d die. It aches when Bruce tells him, “Dick, breathe. I’m going to help you both. I need you to tell me what you meant when you said you wanted to hurt Damian.”
Six weeks after feeling so damningly in love with his son he thought it would kill him, Dick’s gone fucking crazy! He can’t take the chance he reaches for the kitchen knife and—
“You need to kill me,” Dick rasps. “He was screaming and screaming for so long, and nothing I did helped. I couldn’t take it anymore, so I thought – oh god, Bruce, I thought about—”
Or Damian is six weeks old and something is very, very wrong with Dick’s brain.
