Earlier that night, Red Hood had been on his usual patrol, checking up on the working girls, directing street kids to homeless shelters, doing the normal routine. Then, he spotted someone standing atop a building, starting to lean over the edge. He raced to get to them, catching the jumper in his arms. Now he sat with two broken arms, wrapped up in casts, rendering him useless until he healed.

Jason was a pretty heavy guy. As a kid, he was small and malnourished, and it was easy to let himself be swept up into Bruce's arms whenever he got injured on patrol or when he needed the comfort of his father. After the pit, he felt so wrong in his body. He had grown bigger than he had ever expected, bulky muscles that took up too much room in his skin.
He could no longer be swept up into somebody's arms whenever he needed the help, instead needing to be supported by two shoulders as he hobbled over to wherever they needed him to go. A broken ankle had him hopping on one leg back to the Batmobile, and crippling exhaustion had him lying on the floor, passed out until he was finally able to find the energy to push himself back up.
