'And then, just as you reach the breakfast table, that’s when you see her.
Brown silky hair gathered in a messy bun, delicate and gracious face, warm brown eyes. There’s a pang of feeling in your chest that you can’t name.
These eyes are currently meeting yours, and you're kind of regretting coming down in your teddy bear pajamas top and shorts.
And suddenly your kitchen, the kitchen of your childhood, seems to fade away. It’s a blur of shapes and drapes, weird paintings, Victorian dresses, and toppers hanged in an entrance that is not yours… and still those eyes are here, locked into yours…’

//When Emily meets Susan, her brother's new crush, she starts having flashes of the past life they shared in the 19th century. Will Sue and Emily be able to find each other again in this day and age?

“Oh,” she said finally. “Sue! From middle school. Weren’t you in Boston?”
    “I moved back,” Sue said.
“Yeah, I heard about that, actually,” Emily replied. “I love your dog.”
“Thanks,” Sue said. “Are you — okay?”
“Oh, yeah, I’m fine,” Emily told her, though she looked at the same time like she was about two seconds from falling over.
    “Are you drunk?”
“Yeah,” Emily said, then, clearly sensing some judgement in Sue’s tone that wasn’t actually there: “What’s it to you? Free country, right?”
“Kind of,” Sue replied, “except you’re on my front lawn, so.”

(Sue is perfectly fine being alone and not in a hurry to change that. Emily doesn't get the memo.)
