April refuses to let her temporary lapse of judgement that led her to almost coming out for some girl (definitely not just some girl) get in the way of her perfect high school career. She is full steam ahead on maintaining her perfect image and 'perfect' life.

Cruz Manuelos’ life is divided into two parts: before she knew someone wanted to kill her wife, and after.
The day of the division was a Tuesday in March.
Aaliyah was singing. Cruz wonders, after it all falls to pieces, if it was really a siren song, an ominous sign of what was to come. But in the before, her voice was only harmony.
She saw her through the fogged-up glass of the shower. Rays of sunshine came through the skylight, and her back was lit up and golden. Aaliyah opened the shower door. Her smile was serene, beckoning.
“Join me, my love.”
She got in behind her and rested her hands on her hips. Aaliyah turned in the sunshine and sang into her neck.
“My wife,” Aaliyah hummed against her skin.
This is it, she thought. Bliss.
It ended an hour later, when the world turned, spun, folded in on itself.
