Summary
It was jealousy, when John seemed interested in someone else. It was devotion. Putting John's well-being above his own. It was casual touches, leaning on him for no reason, holding his hand on cases and when they went out. Cuddling.
She only saw it once. A couple weeks ago. Also on movie night. Sherlock had sat his head on John's chest, draped an arm over him, and John didn't even bat an eye. Just put his own arm around Sherlock's shoulders. Like they had done that many times before.She didn’t know why she needed to see Sherlock staring longingly at John to realise it.
They were in love. Weren’t they?
Sherlock certainly was.--
Mariana thinks Sherlock is in love with John. Sherlock does want John for himself, so she must be right.

He'd taken it too far, with Slaney. Hadn't he?
He didn't regret it. He'd shot his best friend, he'd shot John. Out of all people... He tried to kill John.
He deserved what he got, and more.But when he'd looked at John, right after... Had there been something in his face? Something primal, animalistic, dangerous, horrible, that made his best friend's face go from exhaustion and concern to fear. Because it had been fear.
Widened eyes, inner corners of the eyebrows raised, lips slightly parted, trembling...
It had been fear.--
Set after the events of The Dancing Men. Sherlock thinks John is afraid of him. John thinks Sherlock needs his space. Not a great combo. -

"So," Watson finally said, the casualness in his tone betrayed by the flickering glances he kept casting Sherlock’s way. "Are we going to talk about what happened today?"
How kind of Watson, to phrase it as a question. "No."
Watson sighed, but evidently refused to give up. "You had your hands around his neck, Sherlock. You were strangling him." He frowned, leaning down. As if by lessening the distance he could read Sherlock better, could peer into his soul and find whatever it was he was looking for. "Have you ever even hurt a person before?"
"Have you?" Sherlock shot back, already knowing.

Summary
Sometimes, John felt as though he was only a vague sketch of a person.
He didn’t know how else to explain it, and when he’d muttered as much to his mum one evening, pain from his leg and exhaustion from his soul letting his inner thoughts out, she’d looked at him in absolute confusion, before telling him to “get some sleep, love, I’m sure it’ll all be better in the morning.”
It wasn’t, but he didn’t bring it up to her again.

Sherlock had never understood the saying of someone “wearing their heart on their sleeve” until he’d met Doctor John Hamish Watson and the constant, sticky stain of affection that he wore day in, day out. John’s heart oozes with his feelings for the world around him and the people who live in it.
It had been unsettling when they’d first met, just how messy John had been with it all – mess wasn’t something that Sherlock had been accustomed to.
Now, he couldn’t picture a life without it.
