Once again Jake put a hand to his head, self-conscious. “What exactly is wrong with my hair?” he demanded.
“No, no! Nothing’s wrong with it,” Maggie said quickly. “It’s just, you know, it’s so short.”
What, did it not frame his face well? He’d had short hair all his life, no one had ever said anything about it before. “You think I should grow it out or something?”
“No, it’s your hair. I mean, I guess this way it’d be harder to grab in a fight.”
“That’s never really been an issue for me,” Jake said, confused.
She laughed. “No, I guess that’s true.”
