Summary
Over the years, ART and Murderbot's relationship evolves as they navigate kink, trauma, and most terrifyingly of all: sexual desire.
Murderbot experiences violent and sexual intrusive thoughts, and struggles to learn to differentiate this from its legitimate kinky desires as a sadist. ART struggles with trust, honesty, and the fear that it will be rejected if Murderbot sees the depths of both its devotion and its internal dysfunction. They're friends, and they love each other, and they're always going to make it work, no matter how hard it sometimes gets.

Part of the touch on my chest slid up to cup my jaw. It was— warm. Gentle? It was weird and unexpected and I scooted away until my lower back hit the couch’s armrest, which obviously did nothing. `My beautiful SecUnit,' ART said, and my breath hitched oddly. It’s the malware, Murderbot, it’s the fucking malware. Keep it together. 'You still haven’t realized what’s happening? You still don’t understand what I’m going to do to you?'

It's been two years since Gurathin's last overdose, keeping him from a long sabotage mission meant to get rid of some far-away planetary leader.
He hates it kind of makes sense the Company won't send him alone now: Deep cover, several weeks long. A hotel whose private networks he'll use to data-mine, and people he'll have to kill. His bodyguard is supposed to pose as an augmented human, though — So of course he wonders if they're sending him to die. SecUnits aren't even sentient. Right?
Maybe the best thing he could do is disappear. And maybe the best way to try is doing it together.
