“P’Payu,” he says, then can’t say anything more. Any words he might have wanted to say get stuck in his throat.
“It’s time to stop studying each other,” Payu says gently. The way he pulls his arm out of Rain’s grip is gentle, too.
But nothing about this feels gentle. Instead, it feels like Payu is digging his fingers into Rain’s chest and squeezing his heart and his lungs.
