    Baelor survives the blow to his head at Ashford but believes himself to be mated to Maekar as a result. Their father orders Maekar to go along with the charade in order to ensure Baelor heals from his wounds. Maekar does, even though he knows it will be his undoing.

    “For a short while,” Maekar said, his eyes flickering over Baelor’s face, his tone going flat. “Until you put another babe in me.”

    Maekar never really cared about other people's opinion, he was loved, he was cared for, but now the monster that he suppressed for so long was starting to come out. The worst part was that he was aware and it became more frustrating.
