Bryce's passing in Prythian has ruined Azriel's peace. Not that he ever had much before. Even if Truth Teller was returned to him, he feels something is missing. He keeps busy with work, until he finds himself captured by a Daglan in Hybern. Alone in the dungeons, desperate to find a way to escape, he finds himself thinking about the determined red-haired female that set him on this path.
In Midgard, Bryce is struggling. Her nights are troubled by an endless dream, and a sense of dread that makes her feel something bad is about to happen. Yet, her world is all boring politics. She spends a lot of her time posturing to bend and sway the various powerful Vanir to do the right thing. Her relationship with Hunt is increasingly difficult. The past lays heavy on them in much different ways.

Bryce Quinlan is gone—back in Midgard, back where she belongs. Hunt Athalar is at her side, and Prythian is nothing more than a fleeting shadow in her past. Azriel should be relieved, should be grateful that life has returned to normal. But the silence she left behind is deafening. His shadows still search for her, his thoughts still drift to her laugh, her fire, the starlight in her eyes. She’s home. He should let her go.
So why does it feel like he's the one who's lost?
