Pepper had switched the business suit for jeans and a crisp white button-down, tucked in in that way where it looked casual but you knew the whole thing cost more than your aunt made in a month. Her hair was in a loose ponytail; the manicure on her outstretched hand was impeccable. Her smile was easy and open, like it hadn't even occurred to her to bring expectations to the table.
