Who knew such a simple question could be so loaded? Caitlyn Kiramman sure didn't. She thought she was happy. She had the seemingly perfect life. Good job, stable family, more money than any one person had any right to have, a fiancée who loved her. Everything was coming up Kiramman, as far as the universe was concerned. But was this really it? Was this what happiness truly was?
Was this as good as it gets?

Vi was pretty sure this was as good as it was going to get for her. Fresh out of prison, with a roof over her head, a good job, a best friend that hadn't abandoned her, and her sister...she finally had her sister back in her life again. Her life felt good for the first time in a long time. Not perfect, because perfect was a fantasy, at least for Zaunites like her. They didn't get perfect, not like the Pilties did. But for Vi, this had to be as good as it gets.

Summary

Vi, who never learned to do anything else. The Caitlyn who just knows control.
And somewhere in between them, something fragile starts to take shape.
And in an arena that revolves around life and death, it's the quiet, unspoken thing that seems most uncertain.
