He gazed through the window at the shimmering scenery below that twinkled and flashed and fought for everyone’s attention. “That’s right,” he said, crossing his legs and placing his intertwined hands on one knee.“But what better opportunity to garner attention for humans- for all of the Alien Stage Program, than to exemplify our curious reproductive whimsies?”
The thing Ivan liked about Ushna was that the alien was a corporate climber. They didn’t have an unreasonable ego, and so they blinked their eye rapidly, considering their pet’s request.
Ivan managed not to smile too wickedly when Ushna asked, “and what’s this phenomenon called again?” They had taken their tablet out.
“Valentine’s Day.”
Ushna frowned. “But you aren’t an expert on human culture, therefore it won’t feel authentic.”
“Trust me- I have more than enough," Ivan paused, the words stuck in his throat. "experience.” -

On October 12th, the Grand Priestess of Narukami shrine goes missing. None know where she goes, only that on the morning of October 13th, she is sipping tea, and chastising the current new apprentice about whatever it is she is doing wrong, as if nothing has happened. It occurs every year, and none would dare to inquire about it.
However, ever since the traveler brought the Shogun from her eternal meditation, the Grand Priestess has been excitable. Not too noticeable, just a twitch of the ear there, and a flash of tail she doesn’t confess there.
Upon the day of October 12th the shrine maidens of Narukami Shrine wonder how they ever mistook the look on Yae Miko’s face for a smile: for the one she wore leading to that night was so bright and genuine, free of cunning, that it was sure to be the real thing.
They can only wonder what the night holds that has the Grand Priestess in such high spirits.Or: Yae Miko meets her archon after a millennium apart.

Summary
Cheng Xiaoshi, all in all, loves working with Lu Guang. It’s not much heavy work, mostly just helping people and making sure no one is doing anything stupid, like hiding a body in the vanishing storage room. Though he’s already sat there for an hour and didn’t disappear, so he’s thankfully disproved that myth.
(Lu Guang runs a magic store and Cheng Xiaoshi needs a job.)

In which Mehrak mistakes a throwaway comment from Kaveh as an order and does everything in its (regrettably limited) power to fulfill it. When it realizes that Kaveh’s happiness could lie with a certain roommate, it intends to throw everything it has into playing matchmaker.
