Summary
Barty is an addict. He won't admit it but everyone knows it's true. He's selfish and cold. Nobody really knows why he turned out the way he did. Maybe it was to get back at his father for being a shitty dad. Maybe the pressure of being a politicians son became too much to handle and he needed an escape. Maybe he was just born fucked in the head. Maybe all of it was true. He's not too sure anymore.
Evan doesn't know how he ended up in this position. How he ended up in a rehab facility after being the towns pride and joy. After being a hockey star on his way to becoming a professional. He doesn't exactly know when his life turned so wrong. He's determined to fix it. He HAS to fix it.Barty doesn't care for Evan. In all honesty, Evan slightly bothers Barty in a way he can't fully comprehend. But he does not care for him one bit.

Barty wakes up and his mum is the lovely person he remembers. She smiles warmly at him over a cup of tea and gives him a kiss atop his head as she goes about her morning. It is mornings like these that he remembers her. That he attempts to capture memories of her in his brain, like screenshots saved on a desktop. He tries to leave this version of her imprinted in the folds of his mind. She’s lovely like this, warm like this. She feels like home like this.
Barty wakes up the next day and the woman in front of him is not his mother, she is not the one he remembers. But she is the one he knows. She is cruel and unrelenting and yet he can’t find it in himself to forget, to remember that he loves her, believing the version he remembers is inside her sleeping peacefully. Maybe if he’s brave enough, smart enough, good enough, she’ll appear again.
