Summary
What if Jay developed asthma after having seawater in his lungs for so long?
After the end of seabound, Jay is dealing with a trifecta of issues; grief from losing Nya, PTSD from almost drowning, and a new medical diagnosis which he is doing his best to ignore. It doesn’t help that his asthma episodes and emotional spiraling form a feedback loop, making everything worse. His friends are all dealing with their own issues, but at some point Jay needs to admit, he just can’t do this alone.This was supposed to be a “5 times Jay hid an asthma attack and one time he couldn’t” type format, but I got a bit carried away and now it is a stupidly long deep dive filling the gap between Seabound and Crystalised. Mostly canon compliant, with Jay being the main exemption. Given that at the start of Crystalised the team is still fractured and miserable, the ending doesn't resolve everything, but it is still somewhat positive. Lots of angst, comfort, and Jay gasping for air.

Jay makes a mistake. It's honestly not that big a deal. But in the moment, it sure as hell feels like he's suffocating. None of this would be happening if he just had better control over his powers. He's tired of feeling like the least proficient elemental master! So in an anxiety-induced haze, he makes a promise to himself: If he can't be taught discipline, he'll force it upon himself.

it’s graphic for violence and violence alone! The ship is fluffy and romantic and not super explicit and this is 100% self indulgent because i feel like the kiss crap from the true potential arc ended a potentially cool storyline too fast.
Jay had always wished he was stronger. He had to rely on everyone else when it came to physical combat. He was strong, sure, 8 years of Training daily and saving the world a dozen or so times will keep you fit, but he wanted more. He felt there could be more. Then the nightmares started. He was in a serpentine tomb. It would try to grab him, again and again. It went on for months, the Skeleton of that Fangpyre inched itself closer. Every night he got close, he’d wake up. It would get faster, and earlier, knocking the spastic lightning Ninja’s sleep schedule down to maybe 4 hours a night. He was tired even in his dreams. He was slowing down for the first time in his life. It was catching up to him. His mental state was wearing down. He felt the claws of the skeleton dig into his hand, the hand it had pricked all those years ago. Jay woke up screaming, looking his hand over in absolute horror, his hand had small scales across it. He was becoming a serpentine again
