Tata brought the Winter Soldier home for the first time when Helmut was five years old. They had hounds on the estate, of course. Tata kept several breeds of hunting dogs in the kennel; had taken Helmut with him a handful of times to course hare in the spring and shoot pheasant in autumn. He’d let Helmut chase after the dogs as they’d crunched through the underbrush and trotted back with their prey, limp and bloodied, dutifully clasped in their jaws. Helmut was familiar with his tata’s pets, but none were as obedient as the Winter Soldier.

It may be his imagination that her scent lingers in the atmosphere of the room, but this dress in particular seems to hold her fragrance. It’s warm and sweet and his chest aches with a deep longing to wrap himself in her skin, to burrow himself in his memory of her and nestle deep within his nostalgia for all he’s lost.

Bucky walks into the living room, takes one look at Zemo on the couch, and turns on his heel to walk out again.
“James, where are you going? Please, come back here.”
Bucky grits his teeth and turns back around to face the room. Zemo is lounging on the couch, head propped up demurely with one hand, wearing nothing but his coat and a large pink ribbon wrapped around his hips, tied in a giant bow at his crotch.
Or, it’s someone’s birthday and Bucky thinks the whole thing’s stupid, except Zemo is very pretty and distracting, so maybe it’s not that bad after all.
