Richie doesn’t pester him about it; Eddie sort of wishes that he would. It’s a delicate balance. He thinks about things like an insane person though, going through it all in his head, rapid-fire. Richie will be sleeping peacefully next to him at six in the morning, when Eddie’s getting ready for work, and Eddie will start imagining - Richie in latex gloves, Richie with a tongue depressor in his hand, Richie with a cold stethoscope against his back, listening to his lungs, commenting on his rattling breath, telling him he’s recovering really well.

“Yeah,” Eddie says, though he doesn’t feel crazy. He read in a book that schizophrenia usually doesn’t manifest until your twenties, though there can be early signs. “The doctors say she had a mental break. Brought on by stress, or something.”
“It’s stupid,” Richie says, scowling. “You shouldn’t have to take care of her.”
