Summary
"You were a princess. A princess behaves. So, you pressed your lips together until they were thin and pale, nodded stiffly, and let the weight of his words settle over you.
Still, as the servants poured more wine and the conversation turned to other matters, you couldn’t stop your mind from wandering. Somewhere across the sea, a boy you’d never met was being told that you would be his bride. Was he just as disgusted? Just as helpless? Or was he laughing with excitement, eager for the day when he could claim his prize?
The thought made your cheeks burn with something that wasn’t quite anger, wasn’t quite embarrassment. Whatever it was, you didn’t like it."

Summary
“I’m adopted.”
The room drops into complete silence.
Bruce stares at him, confused.
The rest of the family stares at him, confused.
Bruce clears his throat. “Well, yes, um—Tim, that’s… well, you know, that would be because I adopted you,” he says hesitantly.
Tim almost breaks. The anxiety keeps him from laughing, but he does manage a small smile. “Yes, that’s right, Bruce—but that’s not what I meant. While I was cleaning up, I found some documents in my parents’ study. A birth certificate, to be exact, and… well, it didn’t say Jack and Janet Drake on it like I was expecting.”
Understanding dawns on their faces.
“You were adopted by Jack and Janet?” Bruce asks.Or
Tim finds his biological parents.

Summary
Tim's idea of fun is not sitting in some drafty old warehouse, tied hand and foot to a swivel computer chair.
It's a comfy chair, at least. He hasn't even been tied so that the ropes cut into the skin. His captor hasn't shown the slightest inclination toward hurting him — but she also hasn't shown the slightest inclination toward letting him out.
"You could have done this somewhere better, you know," says Tim, and kicks the chair into an idle spin, for lack of anything else to do. It just sort of wobbles and totters forward into a slow turn.
"Oh, don't be like that," says Selina.
