Summary
Isn’t it unfair, Mycroft thinks, that one still has to be a big brother even when there’s nobody left to look after?
In which Mycroft did not know about Sherlock's plan to fake his own death, and has spent eighteen months blaming himself for his brother's apparent suicide. Drowning his misery in whiskey, the last thing he expects is for a familiar consulting detective to break into his house.
Part 3 of the Subterfuge series, but can make sense if read alone.

Summary
It isn't the first time Molly's talked to a corpse. It's a coping mechanism, and one that she has perfected. But Sherlock has to scramble across the gurney and slap his hand across her lips in record time to muffle the scream.
In which Molly did not know about Sherlock's plans to fake his own death until he got up and pranced about the mortuary with a bloody gash on his head.
Part 2 of the Subterfuge series. Can be read on its own, but makes more sense if you read Part 1 first.

And especially not John.

In which Sherlock took his fall without telling anyone - not Molly, Mycroft or John. The reactions that follow give us a chance to see characters grieving in ways that we may not have been satisfied with in canon.

Summary
An unexpected chill suddenly runs down Peter’s spine—the feeling has absolutely nothing to do with the current temperature.
He’s been glancing up every so often to make sure that Morgan hasn’t wandered too far, but it happens so fast that he isn’t even sure how it did happen. Peter jerks his head up just in time to watch the girl step onto the iced-over lake, scrambling to retrieve her ball, which must have been dropped and is now rolling away.
“Morgan!” he shouts, but she’s already well on her way toward the middle of the lake.
The sharp sound of splintering ice fills the air.

Summary
He doesn’t even know why he’s at this stupid party.
Okay, scratch that; he does know. It’s because Claire said he should go. Because he opened his stupid mouth while trying to fill the awkward silence over dinner, and the first thing that came into mind was a stupid homecoming party at some stupid jock’s house who he doesn’t even know. And her face had lit up as though he’d just told her he got into Harvard, and she said, more than asked, “and you’re going to go”.

Summary
“That van outside the hotel,” she begins. “It’s Big Bud Dean construction.” She turns to Martha and watches her face turn from blank confusion to slow-dawning realisation, to her eyes widening in shock. “Yeah.” It may have taken a few minutes, but Veronica’s simply glad she made the connection because she’s not sure how she would have handled saying the word ‘JD’ out loud.
“Oh my God,” Martha whispers. Veronica nods solemnly. Using the Lord’s name in vain is tame for her, but it’s pretty much Martha’s version of fuck. “So that means his dad’s in town.”
“Yep.” She clears her throat and shivers despite the warm sun beating down on the two of them. “His dad.” She exhales softly and closes her eyes. “Lily’s grandfather.”while out with her daughter, veronica's past comes back in a big way

Summary
After surviving the whole bomb situation at Westerberg, JD and Veronica try to go back to normal, and part of that means learning to spend the night apart—normal seventeen year olds do that. they're not constantly climbing in each other's windows. They don't even have to wonder if their partner is dead when they're not sleeping side by side.
It's a shame neither JD, nor Veronica is quite normal.
There’s a knock at the window.
It doesn’t startle her when she awakens, only confuses her—normally he’s earlier. The clock is reading 2:36 AM, when she opens the window, and sees a shadow creep in in the darkness of her room. “You’re late,” she jokes, keeping her voice to a whisper. She can’t wake her parents, or they’ll have to stop. She’s not ready for that.
And then she takes his hand, to pull him in. He’s cold. He’s shaking, “you asked me to sleep at home,” he reminds her, “remember? Exam tomorrow—or, fuck, I guess it’s today now.” He forces a laugh, even if neither of them find it funny—there’s an edge to it, not like he’s angry, nor like he’s slipping, but like he’s tacked these words over harder ones, and a corner is peeling up.
