    Phainon scoffed, then pointed accusingly at the pan. “You’re enjoying this. I can tell.”

    Mydei finally glanced at him, eyes warm. “You’re in my kitchen. Of course I am.”

    Phainon felt his ears heat. “You say things like that like they’re normal.”

    “They are,” Mydei said, turning back to the stove. “You’re just dramatic.”

    “Rude.”

    “You’re hovering.”

    “I’m observing.”

    “You’re in the way.”

    Phainon grinned, entirely unrepentant.

    Mydei sighed—deep, exaggerated, clearly fake—and gently nudged him aside with his hip. “Go set the table before I put you to work.”

    “Oh no,” Phainon deadpanned. “Responsibility.”

    OR; Mydei believes Phainon looks at him as his best friend. The thought makes him sick, but it has to be the truth, right? Phainon, on the other hand, wishes that the love of his life was as close with him as he was two years ago.
