"Why?" Kurapika asks softly. "Why did it have to be you?"
Slowly, Chrollo reaches out to brush a strand of hair from Kurapika's face. He's surprised when Kurapika allows it, rather than slapping the hand away. At this angle, the flowers on Chrollo's wrist are on full display. "Could it really have been anyone else?"
Kurapika doesn't answer.
Kurapika and Chrollo are soulmates. They fall for each other in spite of this, not because of it.

If this were an American comedy, the frame would freeze and Reigen would narrate something like ‘I bet you’re wondering how I got myself into this situation?’ Except Reigen’s life is more of a Greek tragicomedy and he doesn’t want anyone to know about this.
Or; Reigen's life ends as he knows it when he's thirteen (and a half), and his Soulmate is born.

He has nightmares about his own death, sometimes. It’s never about the moment itself, the final sizzling heat of a blaster bolt or overwhelming, crushing pain. It’s about Al—sitting alone in one of his tiny little apartments that only contain the personal items Al can’t dare leave behind—waiting for his return. His slow realisation that Ed isn’t coming back. Roy or Riza coming to deliver the news. Absently, Ed has spent a lot of time wondering whether Roy will be able to face his brother the day he learns that Ed has died for his cause. Roy’s probably thought about it, too.
Or: Roy and Ed are Rebels in a harsh galaxy. This makes some things harder than they should be.
