“No,” he replies, a bit breathless. “I can’t say that I have.”
“I have,” she says. He believes her immediately. “Did you know,” she continues, clutching at the bag in her lap, “that the heart of a star is meant to kill you?”

He opens his mouth to disagree, but he bites the air and drops his chin, shaking his head at the street. “I should have never told you that.”
“I’ve come to protect you.” She smiles. “For your lifetime.”
“From… cars,” he says slowly, like that isn’t enough.
“From everything.”
