Summary
Steve has been a latchkey kid since he could remember. His daddy worked late as a lawyer and his momma kept herself busy out of the home. Sometimes she’d be at daddy’s work making sure he was “staying out of trouble,” but sometimes she liked to go to Mrs. O’Reilly’s home for afternoon wine. At first, Steve felt alone but he liked to play with his train set loudly or play with his army figures and not have to worry about someone stepping on Sergeant Grant.
He definitely didn’t mind when he realized he could play in the woods behind his house. He wouldn’t take his entire army, just a handful that fit in his pocket as he adventured out, pretending his army men were on a secret mission. He liked being out in the woods. Especially on a sunny summer day. It was peaceful in a loud way. The birds chirping. Squirrels making the leaves rustle as they jump from one branch to another.
Then there was that boy.
The boy with the messy curls plopped on the top of his head and the toothy smile.

Summary
Branches snap under his feet as he runs, his breath fogging in front of him. It’s cold, but he’s sweating. Fear makes your body do strange things.
He was safe until he wasn’t. He was alone until he wasn’t.
He doesn’t know what’s chasing him, he just knows it’s toying with him. It could’ve attacked him minutes ago when he tripped over a vine. It could’ve attacked him only a few seconds earlier when he had to pause at the end of a trail and could practically feel the hot breath on his neck.
Steve’s losing steam and his chest hurts, and no amount of athleticism could have prepared him for running cross country in the Upside Down. It never gets easier.

Summary
Watching Steve sit alone that first day- even with his ex and her new squeeze crowding his table- former King of Hawkins High with his bruised up face and puppy dog eyes, and apparently, knight in shining armor tendencies, Eddie never stood a chance.
It's Jeff, in the end, that finally badgers Eddie enough to let Steve be dragged over to their table- into Hellfire, and Dungeons & Dragons, and hopefully right into Eddie's arms- after Steve intervenes to stop Jeff being harrassed in the halls.
Now Eddie just needs to figure out what he's going to do with all of it.
Aka a hellfire adopts Steve fic, because give the boy some friends (and a boyfriend).
