    Summary

For three days, Lyonel measured the world by Duncan’s breathing.

Not by bells, not by meals, not by the restless sea below the cliffs. Only breath, then breath again, then the terrible silence between. When Duncan’s eyes finally opened, Lyonel forgot every sharp, clever thing he had meant to say. Anger, grief, pride, all of it fell useless at his feet.

Duncan stared at him through the haze of fever and pain.

    “Lyonel?”

The sound of his name nearly broke him.

“I’m here,” Lyonel said, too quickly, as if the answer had been waiting in him for days. “You’re at Storm’s End. You’re safe.”

Duncan’s gaze held on him, slow with disbelief, then softened with something older than pain.

    “You saved me?,” he whispered.

Lyonel’s hand tightened around his. “Aye,” he said. “I lost you to the road once, I wasn't keen on losing you to it once more.”

Or the one where these fools pine for eachother for months and despite the threat of war, danger of what lurks in the shadows, and fear of what lies at the end of the road, they fight to find their way back to one another.
