Summary
There are two types of mer: wild and domestic. With extremely differing views on culture, freedom, and especially humans, the two groups rarely interact.
Crona is wild, forced by their mother into staying in their den. Maka is domestic, having been raised practically human. Soul is a former wild, working to heal those that were once like him. The stars align, and all three end up in the same place at the same time.

Summary
Maka has known pain since she was very young. Having a rare form of connection to her soulmate should have been exciting, an insight to the life of one she was destined to meet and to love, but all it's brought her is the unique understanding that, whoever and wherever her soulmate is, they're suffering. And Medusa's new stupid nurse aide isn't helping that problem.
Crona was never supposed to have a soulmate. Failing as a kishin was bad enough, but having to bear the knowledge that their existence has caused only pain for someone who was never meant to be caught in the crossfire is something else entirely. But they can't disobey Medusa now- and besides, it's not like they'll be a problem much longer.

Summary
Crona, a selkie hidden from the world because of their inhumanity, had never thought they could be anything other than Medusa's failing experiment. At least, until they break her rules and find that there's so much more to the world than dark rooms and needles.
Maka, part of an internship program for high schoolers in which she studies marine biology under the guidance and shelter of one Professor Stein, has plenty of friends, and she's more than willing to make more. Still, what's going on with this anxious teenager and that black seal she found on the water?
