Summary
Shane has always been a soft Alpha, but all the years he spent sleeping with Ilya, a dominant Alpha, unknowingly caused his body to change, turning him into an Omega.
He doesn’t know how to feel about it; he doesn’t mind, but surely Ilya won’t want to be with an Omega when all he’s ever been with are Alphas.
Or, Shane is now an Omega and hides it because he’s worried Ilya won’t want him anymore, but what he doesn’t know is that Ilya loves him for him, and it’s not going to change anything.

The first time they hooked up, Rozanov had kissed him before Shane got on his knees. They kissed with Scott Hunter in the room next-door. And they kissed slowly and sweetly, on his apartment stairway, after Rozanov had taken his world apart and put him back together again. Hell, even in that bathroom, where he felt as if the Russian was trampling on his bared soul, Rozanov had kissed him.
So why was it different this time? He must have done something wrong. He rakes his fingers through his hair, pulling hard at it.
Was he not good enough? What did he do wrong?
Shane aches with how much he wants—needs the other man. He clings to every single interaction, every touch, every word, every glance, everything Rozanov is willing to give him. He knows they cannot be anything, like Rozanov told him in Sochi. They cannot be anything other than this arrangement. Still, there is a hollow numbness in his chest everytime he thinks about those golden curls and ocean eyes, and it doesn't go away, doesn't subside unless he is with Rozanov, and he hates himself for wishing he could have more.
Or: Shane spirals and avoids Ilya post-Vegas. Ilya chases after him, and they talk.

“I’m fine,” he dismisses lightheartedly, almost chuckling at how Ilya’s whole body seems to decompress at the information. A small smile appears on his lips.
He reasons. Fractured collarbone, concussed, arm in a sling. Out for the playoffs. Him being obliged to stay at home, resting and recovering, while his team could continue playing for the rest of the season without him — he knows the minute the feeling of the meds would wear off, the thought alone would have been enough to send him into psychosis. He considers his options. His throbbing head doesn’t really help.
He then supposes he could have a little fun of his own.
“Heh,” Shane giggles before even managing to blurt anything else out. “My boyfriend is here.”
