Summary
While patrolling his region, Kyojuro finds and kills a demon. Nothing unusual, except this one has left something behind. A little half-demon girl has now been orphaned, and Kyojuro has no idea what to do with her.
Not that he has much time to decide, because Akaza is quick to declare that he will take her. Not that he cares about the brat, but he knows Kyojuro will be quick to pay more attention to him if this little girl is involved. The slayer will have to engage with him, if only to make sure the kid is still breathing.
Horrified but unable to stop Akaza, Kyojuro has no choice but to go along with the arrangement. He can only hope he manages to get the girl away from Akaza before it's too late and she ends up a monster in every sense of the word.

Akaza tilts his head, far more amused than he has any right to be. “What would your brother have done?”
“He’d never give up. He would become better than you, and then he’d kill you.” Quitting wasn’t ever an option for Kyojuro, ever. Senjuro shakes his head. “I’m not my brother though.” The pain and weight of that sentence runs deeper than Senjuro could ever hope to convey; Deeper than he cares to admit, even on the nights he lays awake, blanketed in his own failures.
“So you’re ready to give up then?”
“No,” he answers, more confidently than expected.
Akaza smirks. “Then perhaps you’re more similar to him than you realize.”
