To quell the country’s unrest caused by the 74th Hunger Games, President Snow gave an order Peeta never wanted to do, but unfortunately, cannot refuse.
President Snow visited Peeta before Katniss on the day of the Victory Tour.
“I want you to commit suicide, Mister Mellark,” he said calmly. “This shall destroy Miss Everdeen’s desire to fight, and ultimately, her reputation as a beacon of hope for the rebels,” he continued smiling.
When his mind finally accepted his fate, Peeta finally replied, “I want your word that Katniss WILL NOT be hurt. That includes her family AND the people she loves. She WILL NOT be used by the Capitol. You will let her live in peace.”
President Snow laughed, “What makes you think you can make demands, Mister Mellark.”
“The same way I know that you’re desperate.”
President Snow laid back on his chair and nodded in agreement.
“I’ll do it next Sunday. Make sure everything's ready on your side,” Peeta said before standing up from his chair to leave. “Close the door on your way out.”
