Summary
The night was cold. All nights were cold in the Dark Cacao kingdom. Candlelight flickered and lanterns swung in the strong winds. Snow kissed the ground and settled in thick piles of chilly blankets, creating a soft glow as the moonlight reflected off it. Soldiers marched through the streets practicing routines, holding swords and lanterns to see through the darkness. Many were tired and aching from the gruelling temperatures and marches, but they continued their practices.
Broken leaves and splintered sticks littered the cobble grounds, the snow covering them causing every step to be unpredictable. Soldiers slipped constantly, being tread over by their comrades before pulling their aching bodies up to get back in their formations.
Above the darkened streets, the king stood ever observant, watching over his people.
