Summary
Odysseus slammed the only survivor against the wall, his sword pressed firmly enough against the guard’s trembling throat that blood spilled, black and reflective as it soaked under his armour.
“Which ones?” he snarled, low and feral, as monstrous as he had ever sounded. The guard only stared back, wild-eyed and silent. “You said your king stole Greek heirs. Which fucking ones?”
Barely even a gurgle in response, choked and incredulous. “How the fuck would I know, you think I keep a list of all the whores in this palace?” Something purely dangerous must have shown in his expression, the violent wall behind which he hid a terror so suffocating it would consume him alive, as the guard continued, as frantic as prey in a predator’s jaws.
“I- the Ithacan, I know, but the others-”
He didn’t feel the force in the shock of lighting that shot through him, only the scrape of his blade along the wall and the hollow thud of a skull falling to the stone below.
Telemachus.

Summary
“Easy, kid.” The voice cut through the noise effortlessly, raspy with disuse but gentle all the same. Telemachus blinked up at the man in front of him – he must have practically fallen on top of him, but there was no annoyance in his tone.
He had only a moment to analyse him – tanned skin, warm brown eyes, scars showing at the edges of his tunic – before the guards lost patience and began to push forward again. The man resisted for a just moment, frowning slightly as his eyes darted across the exposed half of Telemachus’s face like there was something written on it he was trying to decode.
Reluctantly, with the persuasion of a sword digging into the small of his back, he kept walking, though his head turned back to glance at him a last time, his brows still slightly creased.
---
Or, where Antinous is king of Trojan-allied Thrace and kidnaps Telemachus to settle a grudge he's never forgiven, keeping him captive with other Greek prisoners long after the war has ended. Somewhere far across the ocean, Odysseus is released from Calypso's island six years early.

Summary
Through the dark of the room – what time was it? – he saw Telemachus bring his hands together, cupping them as if to hold water. For a moment, Odysseus could only blink in sleep-deprived confusion as nothing happened, and then – light.
A small, controlled flame flickered to life between his son’s palms, deep red like the last cinders of their family hearth. It danced between his fingers, as gentle as the low-tide waves that lapped against their shores, and illuminated Telemachus’s honey coloured eyes with gold as they blinked up at him eagerly.
A warmth entirely separated from the physical fire in front of him bloomed in his chest. Odysseus pulled his son forward and pressed a kiss against the top of his head like it could convey even a fraction of the love that ravaged him.

Summary
The world was suddenly alight with colour. Every dull grey was at once so bright it was almost blinding, as if decades of collected dust had been washed away by morning rain, transforming the monotone street into a sparkling paradise of light.
A boy was waving to the crowds from an adorned chariot, and with him he brought back life itself.
Odysseus was deaf to the cheers that surrounded him. The throng of people at his side vanished like smoke. All that mattered, all that had ever mattered was right in front of him, with a smile like the sun itself, wild black hair dancing in the wind like nature itself bent to adore him.
Telemachus.
--
Or, after an almost-mutiny, Odysseus's crew stop a few kingdoms away from Ithaca for supplies while adjusting to their fragile, newfound hope. Odysseus finds more than he was looking for in the form of a child like sunlight itself.

Summary
The boy had his knees pulled up against his chest, the soft white of his sleeping clothes fluttering gently against the breeze. His arms were bared to the winter night, slight fingers gripping his forearm in a way that seemed painful.
It was uncomfortably cold.
“You’ll catch a chill,” was all he managed, his heart in his throat.
Telemachus only shook his head, his eyes – red-rimmed, his chest ached for his son – sliding back out to the horizon. “It… helps.”
“The cold?” Odysseus tried, feeling like he was navigating a battlefield blind. He wanted so badly to help – there was so little he could do.
“The sky."
--
Or: After everything, it's still them. Scars do not fade overnight, but there is always light to be found, and the Ithacan royal family knows nothing if not how to love each other.

Summary
"Do you even know why he named his boy Telemachus?" he demanded, his voice cracking, raw with grief, edged with fury. "Do you know why he chose that name?" His hands shook at his sides, his entire body trembling. "He named him so because it means ‘far from battle.’" His voice rose, raw and ragged. "for he wished his son to be far, far from this accursed war, from blood and bronze and death!"
Silence pressed heavy against the tent.
Diomedes took a staggering breath, his chest rising and falling as though each inhale was a battle in itself. "And now you would have him brought here?" he whispered. "To war? To these accursed shores?"
(or, Odysseus dies during the war. With a prophecy that claims that only the mind of Laertiades will cause the fall of Troy, Ten year old Prince Telemachus is brought to the shores of Troy.)
