Summary
Brittle and battle-worn, Cas looks at him over coffee one morning and says, "I need to go," and Dean instantly knows that he's not coming back.
He's not really sure how he knows it, but he does. It settles into the pit of his stomach, curling hot and tight like something he instinctively wants to tear out with his bare hands. He takes a breath, and it gets stuck in his throat, hitching there. It hurts, hurts, hurts when he finally exhales.
"Yeah," Dean says, "of course you do," and he nods jerkily as he looks down at his phone. He doesn't say goodbye. He doesn't look up from the screen when Cas gets up and leaves the room. He doesn't finish his coffee, or move for a long time.
By nightfall, Cas is gone.

Summary
When Dean Winchester’s friend and neighbor, Garth, moves out of their duplex, he is not expecting him to be replaced with a cranky, weed-smoking recluse with zero taste in music, but that’s what he gets. But Dean soon realizes there is more behind Castiel’s brooding stare and prickly personality. There is someone worth getting to know. Someone who needs a little TLC, even if he is too stubborn to admit it.
Castiel Novak is a survivor. He has survived his parents' tragic death, He has survived being kidnapped and tortured by his own brother, and he has survived living with the constant flow of nightmares that have followed. So Castiel can certainly survive having to live next to an annoyingly cheerful (beautiful) man, with kind green eyes and an unhealthy affinity to classic rock, who is determined to be his new friend.
Or, the one where Castiel starts a friends with benefits relationship with his new neighbor, and finally starts to heal his heart.

“Are you saying-?” He can’t bring himself to say it, afraid to be wrong. If he’s wrong he knows he’ll continue to do what he does best, figure it the fuck out, but he’s just so tired of things being difficult.
He hopes for it to be this simple, if only just this once.
“My last act as God is going to be saving Cas from the Empty.”

Summary
Just west of the town Porthgwarra, Cornwall, Robert Singer’s farm lies, a mess of ravaged land gaping out onto a fretting sea. Robert's orphaned godson, Dean Winchester, is named sole beneficiary of the farm - and though he hasn't seen his godfather in fifteen years, he travels across the Atlantic with his brother and half brother to care for Singer in his old age and tend to the farm. But upon the shepherd's offer to teach him the trade, in anticipation of Dean replacing the man himself, Dean finds in the wild and roaming man a steadiness and certainty his own life has never yet contained. Summary

Following the death of his parents, Castiel inherits their family home, and is forced to return to the same place he ran away from after years of abuse and neglect.
Castiel had sworn to leave behind his childhood trauma and the people connected to it, but the past seem to catch up with him wherever he goes.He befriends a young child only to learn that she is the daughter of Dean Winchester, his next door neighbor and the guy who used to bully him in school.
