Frank Langdon never thought of himself as an addict.
When the pain became too much, too overbearing to walk on bad days, too nauseating to function on a good day. The pain took away his life brick, by brick. At first it took his sobriety, then it took his wife when he was too agitated to co-exist with her, then it took his kid as his wife stopped trusting him to not hurt her or her son when he was having an episode, then the pain started to take away his job - his decisions affected, blurred by the constant need for more. He tried benzodiazepines or benzos to edge himself off the pills - at least for when he was on shift but that never worked and he would almost always has a flare up which caused an excruciating migraine or neausa for several hours.

Summary
Snow might set in any moment. That's where the issues start. Because with an indetermined period of isolation coming up, Robby can't risk keeping Langdon around. So he fires him then and there, throws him out into the dark, literally, and hopes for the best. When nobody has heard from Robbys former favourite the next morning, he beginns to regret his decition.
Meanwhile, a few miles down the mountain, Mel picks up a stranger and naturally offers him a place to stay!
