Summary
Javert couldn't believe his luck. Not because it was incredibly good, per se, but because it was far more complex and strange than it had ever been. At least, excluding his propensity for always running into Valjean back when his worldview was simpler.
He overhears the name of the criminal he's looking for, only to discover she's the one Cosette's friend is marrying?
Unbelievable. This was going to be another morals case, wasn't it.
~~~
Exactly what it says in the tags. Much like in the original opera, the fact that Azelma's in the title doesn't mean she's the main focus, but she needed more love and I needed to make the ships work. If you've never seen Le Nozze di Figaro/The Marriage of Figaro, you can still read this, but. Go watch it anyway. It's great. Listen in Italian with subtitles.
Yes, the title is a terrible Men in Black spoof. I have no regrets.
Bill does a Prism break and Ford falls through a lingering post-Weirdmageddon dimensional rip. Both end up in Night Vale somewhen around the beginning of Yellow Helicopters. Can they team up to fight Strex, or will their lingering amoralness/irrational as pi rejection issues (Bill) and trauma/anger (Ford) get in the way of a beautiful friendship/romance/buddy cop team up?
Featuring: Probably the weirdest buddy cop style team up yet; Cecil & Bill and Carlos & Ford eldritch bonding/nerdery; hatred of Strex as a common ground, bringing people together; and evisceration on both sides of the corporate/incorporeal war!
Updates on Thursdays! Because Weirdmageddon was on a Thursday (probably) and because real-world disasters take place weirdly often, in my experience. -
Temeraire decides not to let anyone hang Laurence. He also knows more of Arthurian myths than Maiden in the Tower stories.
Marcy ends up just a mile away from Toad Tower, and things spiral from there. Why is she glowing? Why did she think bringing her friends into a death world was a good idea? Why is she suddenly both more awesome and realizing she hasn't always been the most awesome friend? Join her as she asks these questions and more, and maybe even get some answers!
Not only inspired by an actual experience, this is literally me twenty minutes ago, before I wrote this! I may be slightly more literal and slightly less pretentious than I appear.
ART?
SecUnit. Stand and return casualties to the shuttle.
It sends me a map of directions, marking the bodies around its corridors.
ART, say something. Call me an idiot, please.
SecUnit. Apply a 5% correction.
This can’t be happening. I shouldn’t have done this, we should have fought to the death instead. I’ve made a terrible mistake.
They installed a governor module on it.
Barish-Estranza captures and installs a governor module on ART. Can Murderbot find a way to save the both of them?
Summary
On the trip back from the Adamantine Colony plans are made, options are explored, fonts are chosen, and mutual administrative assistants exercise their read/write permissions.
“You’re really close.” SecUnit comments but does not recoil, rather it does the equivalent of leaning more of its weight on me.
“How does it feel?” I barely need to ask but I want to hear SecUnit describe the sensation.
“Full, smothering, it reminds me of 2.0.”
Because I can not help myself and because I want to see what is allowed I begin tidying up bits of its storage architecture, improving its power usage, and updating some of its out of date modules. SecUnit calls me a busybody, a neat freak, and a nerd but otherwise lets me work.
Summary
I come back from the dead.
Something happened. Something happened just now— I came back from the dead, yes, I know, I'm not talking about this, something before that— beyond, even, there was a recognition, a realization, somehow much more important than the hostiles I am currently grinding to dust on my deck, more important, even, than SecUnit's humans with their raised hands and SecUnit with its raised voice and myself, raised from my grave. What was it?
What's going on? I ask futilely, my voice distorting through the speakers. SecUnit's humans jump, startled. What the fuck is going on—
[ART is stuck reliving the same horrible no good day in the Adamantine space, even though it knows time loops aren't real, not the way they are shown in media. What is it meant to do in order to get out? Who put it there, and why?]
