Su madrastra tenía dos hijas y esas dos hijas hacían lo posible por ser un obstáculo, y su madrastra no era mejor que ellas. La obligaba a trabajar en el propio establecimiento legado de Enid y la empujaba a abandonar sus sueños. Lo único que tenía como consuelo era su amiga-algo-cibernética: Willa.

Lena era de Krypton, estaba destinada al Gremio Científico Táctico y estaba por ser ingresada oficialmente a él. Era hija de la Casa Vex y de la Casa Kian, grandes jerarquías de Krypton y personas de gran influencia en la ciudad de Argo. Cuando tenía dieciséis años sobrevino la peor de las catástrofes: su planeta explotó y toda su familia se encontró quedándose en sus escombros. Ella logró escapar en su cápsula, persiguiendo dos naves más y sabiendo que su responsabilidad sería cuidar a los más jóvenes de la casa El, pues Lena había reconocido a la heredera de la casa de El por la interfaz vinculada de sus naves. Kara Zor-El era una más de las sobrevivientes.
Sin embargo, ella y Kara se encontrarían quedando en la zona fantasma y luego sus naves se verían separadas antes de llegar al planeta Tierra, quedando lejos la una de la otra. Mientras Kara sufría por pensar ser la mayor fuente de conocimiento viva de Krypton y haber visto a su planeta morir, Lena sufría por sus decisiones y el conocer la verdad real pero no hacerle frente. Hasta que se encuentran años después.
