“Ah - I believe I can find that out for you--” Lord Xu is saying, already waving over his head servant, and Shen Jiu is so irritated that the man just seems to assume that Shen Jiu can’t answer for himself like he’s a dog or some other beast that he speaks up.
“A slave,” he answers, and Yue Qingyuan nods as if this isn’t surprising.
Then he turns towards Lord Xu and he says, “I will buy him.”

Summary
Shen Qingqiu dies in the Ling Xi Caves instead of Liu Qingge.
Liu Qingge must then deal with the aftermath while trying to understand the man he killed.
Shen Qingqiu died with a breathless, wheezing laugh.
There was blood on his lips and his teeth as he bared them in a painful imitation of a smile. A smile full of helpless anger and spite and an odd sense of resignation. And he laughed. Deep and guttural. He laughed until he choked. He laughed until the color fled from his cheeks and his eyes dulled. He laughed until there was no air left.
Shen Qingqiu was silent after that.

Wu Yanzi barks out a laugh. "I used to have another student," he tells Shen Jiu as he takes a swig of his wine. “I picked him up when the Cang Qiong brats rejected him.”
“I don’t care,” Shen Jiu says coolly. He doesn’t. What does it matter that Wu Yanzi had a student before him? That has no effect on him.
"He was far less obedient than you, though,” Wu Yanzi continues, not bothered by Shen Jiu’s lack of reaction. “He kept trying to escape. He had some kid he wanted to see, this Xiao-something he promised to return to." His grin is made of black teeth and nastiness when he says, "Make sure I won't have to bury you next to him."
(Or, there is a very good reason why Yue Qi never returned for Shen Jiu.)Series
