“Lighten up, Jim!” Una laughed. “This is a pleasure planet.”
“It’s a Vacation Destination.” Kirk leaned in close, lowering his voice to a whisper. “Where sixteen Federation citizens have gone missing in the last month!”
“Yeah. About that.” Una leaned over the bar and pressed her thumb against the bartender’s PADD. He mixed her a fresh drink and slid it down the bar without once looking up from his conversation with a flirty, lithe Bajoran. “We should talk.”
Kirk held up a hand. “It’s our assignment. I’d be here searching for our missing people even if this wasn’t a vacation destination.”
“Oh, I know you would.” She elbowed Spock in the ribs. “You’d both be happier if this was an extreme survival world where you had to fight off three meter tall rabid sloths using nothing but spears made from your own deltas.”
“It would be preferable to the present assignment,” said Spock. “Commander Chin-Riley has broken nineteen starfleet regulations since our arrival.”
“In ten hours?” K’Lico slowly licked alcohol off his fruit kabob.
Una shrugged. “It’s been a slow day.”

Jim stopped, suddenly realizing he was the center of attention. Everyone on the recreation deck slowed down, silently watching him as they passed by; some shocked, some laughing, a few reaching out to touch the plush sehlat’s soft fur.
“I feel like I’m on an academy Walk of Shame without having the fun part first,” Jim muttered.
“Ah, yes. Fun.” Spock nodded. “Our Date Night has been satisfactory thus far. For our next activity, I intended to continue our mutual public territorial display by socializing with our friends in the Port Galley. If you have reached your ideal level of social interaction, we could instead find somewhere outside my quarters to engage in sexual acts with a minor but nonzero risk of being caught, so that I may accommodate your need for fun.”
“What I meant…” Jim put his hands over the stuffed sehlat’s ears and stared at Spock, wide eyed, as his brain caught up with what he’d heard. “What the fuck?”
Spock rested one hand next to Jim’s head and leaned in close enough for Jim to feel warm breath in his ear. “That is indeed an option,” he rumbled.
