    I woke this morning with a thought that unsettled me so thoroughly it has not left my mind since: I cannot remember what I look like.
    I told myself that was ridiculous, and then as I tried to picture myself in my mind, the figure I saw was not me. A facsimile.
    Perhaps, I thought, I have simply been too busy to indulge in such silly things as vanity. But lately I have begun to realize it is because I do not want to see.
